Forensic Team Begins In-depth Investigation into Deadly Delhi Car Blast

Nov 11, Kathmandu - Indian forensic teams are continuing their search for the remains of a devastating car bomb that ripped through the heart of the capital, New Delhi, on Tuesday morning. At least eight people have been confirmed dead and 19 injured in the blast that took place on Monday night.

The blast took place in a crowded area of ​​Old Delhi, near the historic Red Fort. The fire that followed the blast also set other vehicles ablaze. Police have not yet given an official explanation for the cause of the blast.

Home Minister Amit Shah, while talking to reporters, said, "Security agencies are investigating from all angles. It is difficult to say the real reason for the incident until forensic samples are analyzed."

AFP journalists saw charred remains of vehicles at the scene of the blast on Tuesday morning, surrounded by a white cordon set up by police. Forensic experts and counter-terrorism officers were at the scene collecting evidence. Security has been tightened across New Delhi.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his deepest condolences to the families of the deceased. He had a "live review of the situation" with Home Minister Amit Shah and wished the injured a speedy recovery, the statement said.

Prime Minister Modi said, "The blast in Delhi is extremely painful. My condolences to the families who lost their loved ones, may the injured recover soon."

Built in the 17th century, the Red Fort is India's most iconic historical monument. It is from the ramparts of this fort that Prime Ministers traditionally address the nation on Independence Day every year.
