Nov 13, Kathmandu - The commission formed to investigate the violent incidents that occurred during the Gen-Z protests has adopted a policy of investigating the heads of security organizations as well.
The Sushila Karki-led government formed after the Gen-Z protests, had formed a commission of inquiry led by former judge Gauri Bahadur Karki to investigate the human and material damage caused during the protests on Bhadra 23 and 24.
The Karki Commission had banned National Investigation Department chief Hutaraj Thapa, who retired on Bhadra 11 days after the Genji protests, from travelling abroad and leaving the Valley.
Now, the commission has also banned Nepal Police Chief IGP Chandrakuber Khapung, who retired only on Thursday, from leaving the Valley. In a statement on Thursday, the commission asked the then IGP Khapung not to travel abroad or leave the Valley, as he could be summoned for a statement at any time.
Recently, the Karki-led commission has been taking statements from police officers deployed in the field regarding the use of force against protesters during the Genji demonstration. The commission has stated that it took statements from police officers in the first phase and later from other concerned bodies.
However, police officers complain that the commission has been harassing police officers deployed in the field in the name of statements, which has lowered the morale of the police.
The commission is preparing to take statements from the chief of the Armed Police Force in addition to the intelligence and Nepal Police.
