Five Policemen Trapped in Snow in Upper Dolpa Rescued by Helicopter

Nov 14, Kathmandu - Five people trapped in snow in Upper Dolpa have been rescued by a police helicopter. They were rescued by a Nepal Army helicopter from a stream in Dolpobudwa Rural Municipality on Friday.

The rescued police officers include Assistant Inspector Devdutta Pandey, Senior Constable Maniraj Joshi, Constable Janak Bahadur Karki, Private Nawaraj Bhatta and Narendra Bhatta.

All five rescued were working at the temporary police post in Nijalagumba, She-Phoksundo Rural Municipality-1. All five of them were deployed to Upper Dolpa last April to ensure the peace and security of the citizens.

They were rescued after they could not walk due to snow and extreme cold for about 36 hours after walking from Namdo to Dunai via a stream, said DSP Ruk Bahadur Khadka of District Police Dolpa.

All of their hands, feet and faces are swollen due to the snow. All five were brought to the district headquarters Dunai by helicopter and after a general check-up, they were taken to Surkhet for further treatment.

After the thick snow in the Nijalagumba area made it impossible to stay, all five were instructed to return to the District Police Office in Dunai. The five were rescued by helicopter after the snow threatened their lives while returning to Dunai.

Central Police Spokesperson DIG Abhinarayan Kafle informed that if a police officer faces any problem while performing his duty, he is rescued from the police headquarters.
