Thousands Protest Against Govt in Mexico, 120 Injured in Clashes

Nov 16, Kathmandu - At least 120 people, including 100 police officers, were injured in clashes with police in Mexico after “Gen-Z” youth took to the streets in a massive anti-government protest. According to Mexican police, tear gas and force were used to control the situation as anti-government protests in the capital, Mexico City, turned violent.

Protesters marched in various parts of the capital on Saturday, accusing President Claudia Sheinbaum of increasing violent crime and weakening the government of President Claudia Sheinbaum. Similar demonstrations against the government were held in other cities.

Clashes with police reportedly broke out after protesters tried to break through the security cordon around the National Palace, where Sheinbaum lives. Security forces fired tear gas in an attempt to control the crowd.

Mexico City security chief Pablo Vazquez said 20 people were arrested in the clashes on charges of robbery, assault and other crimes.

Meanwhile, President Claudia Sheinbaum has accused the protests of being financed by right-wing leaders to destabilize her government.

The rally, organized by “Gen-Z” youth, was also supported by groups expressing anger over recent high-profile crimes, including the recent murder of Urupan Mayor Carlos Manzo.

Mayor Manzo was shot and killed during the Day of the Dead festival on November 1.
