Trump's 'U-turn' on Releasing Files Related to the Epstein Scandal

Nov 17, Kathmandu - US President Donald Trump has backed a push by lawmakers to release more documents related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He had previously opposed the move.

President Trump, writing on his Truth Social platform, said, “House Republicans should vote to release the Epstein files because we have nothing to hide.”

President Trump, 79, has accused Democrats of spreading the “Epstein Hoax” and claimed that recently released emails gave misleading indications that he “knew the girls.”

After the emails were released, some critics accused President Trump of trying to withhold the release of the files in order to hide potentially incriminating information. The president has denied all such allegations.

The case has caused divisions within his party, particularly between Trump and his close allies in the Make America Great Again (MAGA) movement. Over the weekend, President Trump withdrew his support for the 2026 re-election campaign of MAGA-affiliated Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene.

Republican House Speaker Mike Johnson said he would vote this week on a resolution to force the Justice Department to release the remaining Epstein files. Trump wrote in this context, "Some of our Republican members are being used and we cannot allow this to happen."
