Nov 18, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court is set to hear today a writ petition filed against Attorney General Sabita Bhandari Baral for her decision not to prosecute egg buyers.
The writ petition will be heard on Tuesday in the bench of Justice Abdul Aziz Musalman.
Advocate Upendra Rawat had filed the writ petition on Monday, naming the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers, Attorney General Baral, the Attorney General's Office, the Central Bureau of Investigation, among others, as defendants. The preliminary hearing of the writ petition is scheduled to take place.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) had initiated an investigation after receiving a complaint of buying and selling eggs of minors.
The police had taken Dr. Swasti Sharma and others into custody in connection with the investigation under the Children's Act, 2074 BS. However, the court later allowed them to continue their investigation without their custody.
After completing the investigation, the police submitted the investigation report on Bhadra 1 and submitted it to the Government Attorney's Office in Kathmandu. From there, it was decided not to prosecute the case and sent it to the Government Attorney's Office in Patan, and later, the Attorney General's Office also decided not to prosecute the case.
After the decision was made by the office, Attorney General Baral is accused of protecting his relatives.
