Nov 21, Kathmandu - The discussions held at Singha Durbar between the locals of Banchare Danda and the government have concluded with an 11-point agreement. As per the agreement, the government has committed to quickly settle the cases filed against the locals, expedite the process of preparing the EIA report, and allocate funds in the next year's budget for the land tribunal as per the report.
It has been agreed to write to the Kathmandu Metropolitan City to provide compensation for houses, huts and crops to the most affected locals of Banchare in 2082/83 and to provide compensation on a sisdol-like basis within a month. It has also been agreed to immediately stop and take legal action against the incident of dumping waste outside the capping layer and mixing it with the leachate source and to find a long-term solution through an expert team within 15 days.
It is mentioned that special facilities will be provided in health and education, an agenda will be raised through the Mayors Forum to ensure employment opportunities for the affected locals, the metropolis will increase the assistance amount from 30 million to 60 million, and the ministry will take the initiative to ensure the contribution of other municipalities.
It has also been agreed to formulate a procedure to provide relief to the families of those who died due to garbage, to remove local obstacles and resume garbage transportation, and to proceed with the construction of the Tinpiple-Kumari Galchhi road through a multi-year program.
