Nov 22, Kathmandu - After the announcement of the election of members of the House of Representatives, 837,094 new voters have been added.
The details of new voters who registered their names have been made public after the extended period for registration and updating the voter list conducted by the Election Commission expired at midnight last night.
344,914 new voters have been added through biometrics including photos and fingerprints and 492,180 through national identity cards, informed the Commission's spokesperson Narayan Prasad Bhattarai.
The number of people registering their names online has further increased after the Commission made it possible to register their names in the voter list based on the details of the national identity card.
Prime Minister Sushila Karki has also mentioned on social media that the collection of voter lists has been completed, including the number of new voters. As of Kartik 16, the number of voters who had completed the age of 18 was 18,168,023.
Earlier, the deadline for registration of voters was extended to Kartik 30, but based on the pressure of new voter registration and the request of stakeholders, the Commission extended the deadline to Kartik 5.
