Nov 22, Kathmandu - The Nepali Congress has decided to participate in the House of Representatives elections on Falgun 21.
The meeting of the Congress Central Working Committee held at the party office, Sanepa, on Saturday decided to participate in the elections, concluding that the appropriate way out of the current politics is elections, given that the date for the House of Representatives elections has already been announced.
The party's spokesperson, Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat, informed that the party firmly believes that the country can be moved forward by protecting the constitution and institutionalizing the voices raised for change during the Gen-G protests through elections.
The meeting has decided to register the party with the Election Commission for the purpose of the National Assembly member election and the House of Representatives member election. Although a fear-free environment is essential for the elections, the Congress has concluded that the situation is serious, with thousands of prisoners absconding, large quantities of weapons being lost, and political parties not being able to conduct their programs freely.
The meeting has demanded that the Election Commission, the government and the relevant parties create the necessary environment to make the elections fair, credible and fear-free.
Similarly, the meeting demanded immediate improvement in peace and security, raising the morale of security personnel and ensuring a fear-free environment for the general public, said Spokesperson Mahat.
The meeting also called for not adopting any path of violence or provocation, not engaging in politics of prohibition, and seeking a solution through dialogue with restraint, as trust and understanding are necessary, he said.
Spokesperson Mahat informed that the party will unite and take a unanimous decision on the issue of the party's general convention.
