Violence Attempt at Biratnagar Airport: UML Leader Mahesh Basnet Targeted by Protesters

Nov 23, Kathmandu - Nepal Communist Party (UML) leader and former Minister Mahesh Basnet faced an attempted act of misconduct at Biratnagar Airport. Protesters reportedly threw balloons filled with color and dye at the vehicle in which Basnet was travelling.

Police have arrested two people who attempted to molest a youth who arrived on a Shree Air flight at 10:50 this morning to participate in the Youth Association's public awareness campaign organized in Itahari.

They also raised slogans against Basnet. According to the police, 19-year-old Arpit Kunwar, a resident of Biratnagar Metropolitan City-2, and 25-year-old Sanjog Gautam, a resident of Biratnagar-1, have been arrested. Basnet has already left for Itahari, the venue of the event. The situation is normal now. The police have tightened security arrangements.

Earlier, Gen-Z had protested at the airport in Simara when UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and Basnet were about to leave Kathmandu.
