Nov 23, Kathmandu - The 16th International Conference organized and conducted by the Nepal Society of Surgeons has concluded. The conference discussed the development of surgical science, the use of new technologies, and the strengthening of national surgical services.
More than 600 surgical experts from India, China, the United States, the United Kingdom, Bangladesh, Bhutan, the Maldives, and Sri Lanka were present, informed Dr. Anip Joshi, General Secretary of the Nepal Society of Surgeons.
The conference discussed robotic surgery, minimally invasive techniques, new technologies, research, and recent changes in clinical practice. The three-day conference featured 177 research papers, 27 poster presentations, 68 guest lectures, and 15 video presentations of new techniques.
On the first day, a special session on laparoscopic surgery was held at the surgery building of Bir Hospital, jointly organized by the National Institute of Medical Sciences, NIMS, and the Department of Surgery at Bir Hospital.
In the conference, senior surgeons of Nepal held strategic discussions on the potential and development of robotic surgery in Nepal, and how to provide modern and quality surgical services to remote rural areas, including Karnali through the National Surgery Plan.
Through the special session of the conference, honorary fellowships were awarded to 14 senior surgeons from different countries, including the President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England, the Vice President of the Royal College of Surgeons of Glasgow.
On the same occasion, the current President of the Nepal Surgical Society, Dr. Romeo Kansakar, handed over the post to the incoming President of the Executive Committee, Dr. Robin Joshi, with effect from January 1, 2026. The conference was held in Kathmandu from Mangsir 4 to 6.
