Nov 25, Kathmandu - Iran publicly executed a man convicted of raping two women in the province of Semnan on November 25.
The execution was carried out in the city of Bastam after the Supreme Court upheld the verdict, according to Mizan Online, the official outlet of Iran’s judiciary.
"The verdict was confirmed and implemented after a thorough review by the Supreme Court," Mizan quoted provincial judiciary chief Mohammad Akbari as saying.
Provincial officials said the man had tricked the two women and raped them with force and coercion. He also threatened the victims, fearing damage to their social reputation.
The identity of the person to be executed and the date of the sentencing were not immediately made public.
Although Iran normally carries out executions in prison, the new execution comes two weeks after a public execution of a man convicted of murder.
The Islamic Republic of Iran, which executes most of its convicts by hanging, is the world's second-highest executioner after China, according to human rights groups including Amnesty International.
