Nov 25, Kathmandu - A total of 68 political parties have been registered so far for the upcoming House of Representatives elections scheduled for February 21.
A total of 68 parties have been registered for the House of Representatives elections as of Tuesday, informed the Commission's spokesperson Mahadev Pantha.
The CPN-UML and the Nepali Congress have also registered their parties in the commission. On the one hand, the UML has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court demanding the restoration of the House of Representatives, and on the other hand, it has also registered its party with the Election Commission.
According to UML leaders, the main bottom line is the restoration of the House of Representatives.
The Commission has set a deadline of Mangsir 20 for political parties wishing to participate in the House of Representatives elections.
‘According to the election program prepared by the Commission for the House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21, the deadline for registering parties for election was set for Mangsir 20,’ he said. ‘As of Tuesday, 68 parties have already registered their parties for the House of Representatives elections.’
He also called on all the remaining political parties to register with the Commission for election purposes.
‘There is still some time to register parties for election sponsors within the office on Wednesday. The Election Commission expects other parties to register for election purposes and participate in the competition during the remaining time,’ he said.
Spokesperson Pantha also informed that serious discussions are underway between the government and the Commission on allowing Nepali citizens living abroad to participate in voting.
He also said that the necessary law on voting rights for foreign citizens will be finalized after the enactment of the necessary law. He also said that the Commission is committed to holding elections in a clean, fair and fear-free environment.
