Chinese Company Awarded Contract to Print New 1,000-Rupee Banknotes

Nov 28, Kathmandu - Nepal Rastra Bank has given the responsibility of printing and supplying new banknotes of Rs 1,000 to a Chinese company. The responsibility has been given to China Banknote Printing and Maintenance Corporation Beijing China Company, which was selected from among the applications received as per the call for bids on 1 Bhadra 2082.

As per the agreement, the company will design, print and supply 430 million new banknotes of Rs 1,000 denomination. The bank has stated that an agreement was signed on 11 Mangsir 2082 with the Chinese company, which was the lowest evaluated substantially responsive bidder, following a public bidding process.

The bank has stated that it has informed the general public in accordance with the provisions of Section 137 of the Public Procurement (Fourteenth Amendment, 2082) Regulations, 2064 and Section 54 of the Guidelines on Printing Notes and Minting Coins, 2065 (as amended by the Second Amendment, 2081).
