Nov 28, Kathmandu - At least 84 people have died and dozens are missing after floods and landslides hit the Indonesian island of Sumatra, rescue officials said on Friday.
Dozens of people have also died in the region after heavy rains triggered by flooding in neighboring Malaysia and Thailand.
At least 22 people have died in West Sumatra and 12 are missing, according to the local disaster agency.
Walintukan said North Sumatra authorities were focusing on evacuations and providing aid. He said communications were cut off in some areas of North Sumatra.
More than 30 people were killed in the hardest-hit city of Sibolga, he said.
In West Sumatra, 22 people were killed and 12 were being sought, AFP reported, citing Abdul Malik, head of the local disaster agency.
Heavy rains also caused flooding and landslides in Indonesia's western province of Aceh, with around 1,500 people evacuated, the local disaster agency said.
Electricity services were also cut off in parts of the province, AFP reported. Electricity company Perusahan Listrik Negara said it was deploying workers to gradually restore power after flash floods hit transmission towers earlier this week.
Monsoon rains have flooded parts of Thailand, killing dozens. Flooding has also killed at least two people in Malaysia.
At least 38 people have been killed and 13 are still missing after heavy rain triggered landslides in Central Java.
