New Egg Prices Enforced in Nepal Amid Rising Consumer Demand and Market Changes

Nov 29, Kathmandu - New minimum support prices for eggs have come into force in Nepal. The Nepal Layers Egg Producers' Association announced the revised rates following a meeting held yesterday, according to Association President Binod Pokhrel.

The newly set prices are expected to cover farmers' production costs. Under the new rates, a dozen extra-large eggs now cost NPR 560, large eggs NPR 545, and medium eggs NPR 530. President Pokhrel stated that these prices represent an increase of NPR 40 per dozen compared to previous rates. The new pricing is based on farmers' farm-level costs, he added.

The association also mentioned that the recent halt in illegal egg exports to India has facilitated the implementation of these new prices. Despite traditionally seeing increased egg consumption during winter, which usually drives up prices, this time the increase has been notably higher.
