Nov 29, Kathmandu - Two youths have died in a road accident that took place on the Mechi Highway in Bhanjyang Golai, Ilam Municipality-9, this afternoon. A truck (Province 1-01-001 Kha 4101) coming from Jhapa towards Ilam and a scooter (Province 1-01-012 Pa 4899) going in the opposite direction collided, seriously injuring two people on the scooter. David Thapa, 26, of Golbasti, Ilam Municipality-9, and Chhewang Sherpa, 18, of Nayabazar, Maijogmai Rural Municipality-1 and currently residing in Ilam Municipality-7, died in the accident, according to the District Police Office, Ilam.

Magar suffered serious injuries to his stomach, while Sherpa suffered serious injuries to his head and legs. Both were immediately taken to the District Hospital, Ilam, with the help of locals. However, the hospital said that both died during treatment. After the incident, the truck driver, Ram Prasad Shrestha, 25, of Biblyate, Ilam Municipality-5, has been taken into custody by the police. The police have informed that a detailed investigation into the accident is underway.
