Nov 30, Kathmandu - World-famous Argentine footballer Lionel Messi has set another world record. He set the record for most assists in the American Major League Soccer (MLS) Eastern Conference title match by providing an assist.
Messi assisted Silvetti in the 67th minute as Inter Miami won 5-1 against New York City on Sunday morning. With this, Messi has made 405 assists in his career (both for club and country). He broke the record of 404 assists set by legendary Hungarian footballer Ferenc Puskas.
With the win, Messi's team Inter Miami has also advanced to the MLS final. The final will be played on December 6 against Eastern Conference winners Miami and Western Conference winners Vancouver Whitecaps. The match will be held at Miami's home stadium, Chase Stadium.
The Eastern Conference title will not officially count in Messi's trophy cabinet because it is not recognized by world soccer's governing body FIFA. He will have to wait until the final against Vancouver to win his 47th career title.
