UML General Convention Representative Selection Not Finalized in 4 Districts Due to Controversy

Dec 01, Kathmandu - Although the process of selecting representatives for the 11th general convention of the UML was supposed to be completed by Saturday, it has not been possible in four districts due to disputes. Representatives have been selected through elections in more than a dozen districts.

Kashinath Adhikari, head of the organization department, informed that the process of selecting representatives has been completed in some districts. ‘The selection of representatives has been completed in most districts. It will be completed in three or four districts on Monday,’ he said.

Representatives have not been selected in Bajhang, Tanahun, Dailekh and Mahottari. ‘Discussions are underway. It will be completed in these districts today as well,’ the official said.

Around 2,300 delegates from 77 districts and the diaspora will participate in the general convention to be held from November 11 to 13.

Elections have been held to select delegates in districts including Dhanusha, Mahottari, Makawanpur, Kanchanpur, Kathmandu, Lalitpur, Okhaldhunga, Jhapa, Rukum West, Morang, Lamjung, Tanahun and Gorkha.

46 representatives will be elected from Kathmandu. Of these, 15 are women, 10 are youths under 40 years of age and one is a Dalit. Similarly, in Lalitpur, one is a youth and one is a Dalit representative, but representatives have been elected from the other three constituencies. Four women, three are youths under 40 years of age and one is a Dalit representative from Lalitpur. Bhaktapur District Committee Chairman Bachan Deuja said that all the representatives were unanimous. Out of the 14 representatives from the district, five are women, two are youths under 40 years of age and one is a Dalit.
