Dec 02, Kathmandu - The Election Commission has clarified that it will not be possible to arrange voting for those living abroad due to lack of time. With this statement from the Commission, there are signs that the government's preparations to allow those living abroad to vote will be stalled. The Commission has clarified that it will not be possible to arrange voting for those living abroad under any circumstances as there are only 91 days left for the scheduled election on Falgun 21.
Acting Chief Commissioner of the Election Commission, Ram Prasad Bhandari, has informed the government that due to lack of time, it will not be possible to manage voting for Nepalese abroad and inter-constituency voting.
Chief Advisor Bhandari made the announcement during a meeting with Interim Prime Minister Sushila Karki's chief advisor on Sunday, citing lack of time and inability to reach a party consensus.
Prime Minister Karki's chief advisor Ajay Bhadra Khanal had reached the Election Commission to meet Chief Commissioner Bhandari on Sunday.
An Election Commission official said that the meeting discussed voting from abroad and inter-constituency voting. During the meeting, the Chief Commissioner replied that it was no longer possible to arrange voting for those living abroad, the commission official said.
Although the government is planning to issue an ordinance to make voting arrangements for Nepalese living abroad, there is no time to make any preparations in this regard, according to a source in the commission.
