Dec 02, Kathmandu - Even after more than a month of suspension of the contract process for Nepal Telecom's billing system, the contract process has not resumed. Even when the technical evaluation has been completed and the financial evaluation has been reached, the telecom itself has not disclosed the clear reason for the process.
Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagdish Kharel formed an investigation committee after some complaints were raised in the media regarding Nepal Telecom's contract process.
The committee has already submitted its report on the scheduled date. At the time of the investigation committee's report submission, both Minister Kharel and the coordinator of the investigation committee, former Secretary Maniram Gelal, had made it clear to the media that there would be no interference in the contract process due to the investigation report. Even after that, the telecom has not resumed the contract process that it had suspended.
Nepal Telecom's acting managing director Sabina Maskey Pradhan said that there was further confusion due to the suspension of the telecom's billing contract process. According to her, the bidding process should be finalized at least 24 months before the new company is given. But now the company has only 22 months left. Experts say that if the contract process is suspended for a long time, this may affect the telecom's services.
