Pokhara Sets Huge Target of 202 Runs Against Karnali

Dec 02, Kathmandu - Pokhara Avengers, inspired by opener Adam Rossington's century, have set a target of 202 runs against Karnali Yaks in the second edition of the Nepal Premier League (NPL).

Pokhara, who won the toss and elected to bat at the Tribhuvan University Cricket Stadium in Kirtipur on Tuesday, posted a total of 201 runs for the loss of two wickets in the stipulated 20 overs. This is the second highest total made in the second edition of the NPL. Earlier, Biratnagar Kings had posted the highest total of 220 runs against Pokhara.

Pokhara opener Rossington played an unbeaten 108-run century innings. He hit 11 fours and seven sixes in 58 balls.

With this, Rossington became the second batsman to score a century in the second edition of the NPL. Before him, Karnali's Wark Watt had scored a century of 114 runs against Lumbini Lions this season. This is the third century in the NPL overall. Earlier, Pokhara's Andreas Gauss had scored a century in the first edition.

From a position of 34-1, Rosington had led Pokhara to a huge total by putting on a century partnership of 127 runs with Jason Roy for the second wicket.

Roy, who was playing his first match for Pokhara, scored 46 runs in 34 balls with two fours and three sixes.

Captain Kushal Bhurtel added 18 runs while Dhananjay Lakshman remained unbeaten on 23.

Despite using seven bowlers against Pokhara, only Karnali's Nandan Yadav and Wark Watt took wickets. Both of them took one wicket each.

Pokhara, who have won only one match in four matches, will easily reach the playoffs if they win this match. For Karnali, this match is a 'do or die' situation.

20 matches have been completed in the tournament since Mangsir 1. The undefeated Sudurpaschim Royals have become the first team to reach the playoffs by accumulating 10 points in the tournament.
