Threatening Letter in the Name of a High-ranking Official Causes Headache for Police

Dec 04, Kathmandu - A few days ago, a two-page letter was made public without mentioning the date. This letter, which mentions very suspicious and serious issues, has now caused a great stir and concern. This issue has become a headache for the security apparatus.

The Kathmandu Valley Police Office has said that an investigation has been launched after receiving a threatening letter. The Kathmandu Valley Police Office has instructed its subordinate police offices to remain vigilant.

According to a police officer, the man was found to have made the video by altering his voice. The police officer said that an attempt was made to create panic by changing the location.

“It seems like an attempt to create panic. There is no large group involved. It is not clear what the purpose is,” the police officer said.

The letter, written on the letterhead as, Extremist Group of Nepal (ENG), mentions Prakash Pathak’s name as ‘Chairman’.

Where threats have been made by mentioning the names of Prem Kumar Rai, Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority, former Chief Commissioner of Nepal Oil Corporation Gopal Khadka, former Chief Commissioner of the same Commission Lokman Singh Karki, medical practitioner Durga Prasai, former Home Minister and Nepali Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak, former IGP Om Bikram Rana, Hem Bahadur Gurung, Ramesh Chand Thakuri, former Foreign Minister and Congress leader Arju Rana Deuba, former Home Minister and Congress leader Bal Krishna Khand.

Not only this, after the letter was made public, a person named Prakash Pathak also released a video message threatening CIAA Chief Rai to resign within 10 days.

The Authority has also discussed the matter with the police after the incumbent Chief of the Authority received death threats.

Last Monday, officers from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office and the District Police Range Kathmandu were called to the CIAA's central office in Tangal and informed about the incident.

During the initial investigation, police sources said that the person who made the threat was not in Nepal. The security agencies have analyzed that the threat may have been made abroad with the intention of spreading terror.

Police sources also say that the person who made the threat has a criminal background. An investigation officer said that the police had previously filed a case against the person who called himself Prakash Pathak for various offenses.

Police officials have not said anything about this, saying that the investigation is currently underway. In the video, the person claims to be in India. He openly challenges the security apparatus, claiming that the police will not find him because he moves to three or four places in an hour.
