Dec 05, Kathmandu - One person has died and 11 passengers have been injured in a bus and truck collision in Kanchanrup Municipality of Saptari.
A 50-year-old male passenger in the bus died when a passenger bus (Madhesh Pradesh 02-001 Kha 0287) heading from Janakpur to Kakadbhitta and a truck (Na 3 Kha 4402) coming from the opposite direction collided on the East-West Highway in Ward No. 2 of the municipality, Baramjhiya, on Thursday night.
The name and address of the deceased could not be revealed, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhav Prasad Kafle of the Area Police Office, Kanchanpur.
Eleven people, including an Indian citizen, were injured in the accident. Md. Shahid, 32, and Altaf Intaf, 12, of Sujatpur Municipality 11, Madhubani District, India, Anis Kumar Sharma, 22, of Bakhri 4, Ragorpur, India, Subhanshu Kumar Jha, 24, of Bhithamod 4, Sitamadi District, and Shanti Devi, 73, of Bhitha 6, Sirkhandi, India, were injured.
Similarly, Jerudra Jha, 54, of Jaleshwor Municipality-4, Mahottari, Shankar Kumar Mehta, 31, of Haringara Rural Municipality-4, Sunsari, Sonu Ram, 23, of Laxmaniya Rural Municipality-6, Dhanusha, Tika Devi Dulal, of Buddhashanti Rural Municipality-1, Jhapa, Manoj Kumar Sah, 40, of Parsa Rural Municipality-6, Sarlahi, and Kritika Koirala, 27, of Sundar Haraicha Rural Municipality-4, Morang, have been injured.
The injured are being treated at various hospitals, according to the Kanchanpur Area Police Office. There were 55 passengers on the bus. Deputy Superintendent of Police Kafle said that further investigation into the incident is underway.
