Dec 05, Kathmandu - A clash erupted at the CPN-UML (Communist Party of Nepal - Unified Marxist-Leninist) central office in Chyasal on Friday afternoon when members of the Aadibasi Janajati Loktantrik Mahasangh (Indigenous Nationalities Democratic Federation) confronted party leaders over dissatisfaction with the selection process for General Convention delegates.
The incident occurred while the dissenting group was meeting with party leaders, including Organizational Department Chief Kashinath Adhikari and Standing Committee member Bhanubhakta Dhakal. The protestors reportedly raised loud objections, claiming the selection process had lacked proper protocol for the past eighteen months, which escalated into a physical altercation with another group present at the office.
The scuffle highlights growing internal discord within the CPN-UML just weeks before its General Convention, which is scheduled to commence on Mangsir 27 and be inaugurated at Sallaghari, Bhaktapur.
Delegate selection has been completed nationwide, but it has fueled significant dissent. The internal dispute is further complicated by the announcement that senior leader Ishwar Pokhrel will be challenging current Chairman K.P. Sharma Oli for the party chairmanship.
