25 Killed in Cylinder Explosion at Nightclub

Dec 07, Kathmandu - A cylinder explosion at a nightclub in Goa, India has killed 25 people. Six others were injured in the incident.

Four tourists and 14 employees were among the dead in the explosion at a nightclub in Goa's Arpora area on Saturday night. Seven others are yet to be identified.

Goa police have arrested the club's manager. According to police, the explosion was so powerful that fire spread throughout the club within minutes. After a long effort, the fire brigade brought the fire under control.

Chief Minister Pramod Sawant and local MLA Michael Lobo reached the spot as soon as the news of the incident was received. He informed that a thorough investigation will be carried out into the incident and strict action will be taken against those responsible.

Initial investigation has revealed that fire safety rules were not followed in the club. Senior administration officials are present at the spot and a forensic team is investigating the cause of the fire.

Expressing grief over the accident, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh to the families of the deceased and Rs 50,000 to the injured.
