Dec 07, Kathmandu - The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority has filed a corruption case in the Special Court, concluding that there was corruption in the construction of Pokhara International Airport.

In the case, then ministers Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat, late Posta Bahadur Bogati (in his case, Mrs. Ram Maya Bogati), Ram Kumar Shrestha, Deepak Amatya, Bhim Acharya have been made defendants.

Similarly, former secretaries Suman Prasad Sharma, Bhesh Raj Sharma, Ranjan Krishna Aryal, Mohan Krishna Sapkota, Madhu Kumar Marasini, Suresh Acharya and others have also been made defendants.

Information Officer Regmi said that a total of 55 individuals and one company, including suspended Director General of the Civil Aviation Authority Pradeep Adhikari and officials of CAN, have been made defendants.

The Public Accounts Committee of the dissolved House of Representatives had sent a file to the Authority for investigation with the conclusion that there was a scam at Pokhara Airport.

A regional international airport was built in Pokhara with the help of a concessional Chinese loan.

The airport process began during the government led by the then Prime Minister Dr. Baburam Bhattarai.

Later, due to economic decisions made during the tenure of Sushil Koirala, the then Finance Minister Dr. Ram Sharan Mahat was removed.

Pushpa Kamal Dahal 'Prachanda', the Prime Minister of the government formed immediately after the 2079 BS elections, inaugurated the airport on Paush 17.
