Supreme Court Orders Presence of Dibesh Shakya Within 24 Hours Over Protest in Hetauda Market

Dec 08, Kathmandu - The Supreme Court has ordered that Dibesh Shakya, who was arrested while protesting the demolition of more than 500 houses and huts in Hetauda Bazar to be produced within 24 hours.

On Monday, a bench of Justice Mahesh Sharma Poudel ordered that he be produced within 24 hours.

In the case of Divesh, advocate Raju Shakya had filed a writ of habeas corpus in the Supreme Court.

‘When he tried to widen the road in Hetauda, ​​he showed the Supreme Court order to the administration. But the police arrested him for obstructing the work,’ Shakya said, ‘I had filed a writ of habeas corpus in his case.’

The opposition Attorney General’s Office has been ordered to submit a written response through the said writ while hearing the said writ.

The Road Division Office and the District Administration Office had used dozers on 531 houses and huts in Hetauda Bazaar on Saturday, disobeying the Supreme Court’s order. The Supreme Court had issued a short-term order on Friday to ‘immediately stop the demolition of houses and huts’.

The District Administration and Road Division Office, on the other hand, had used dozers to demolish 531 houses and huts on Saturday morning, saying they had not received an official order.
