Indian commitment to provide necessary assistance in the House of Representatives elections

Dec 09, Kathmandu - Additional Secretary at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Munu Mahawar paid a courtesy call on Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal. The Home Ministry stated that during the meeting held at the Home Ministry on Tuesday, they discussed the bilateral relations and mutual interests between Nepal and India.

During the meeting, Home Minister Aryal and Mahawar discussed the upcoming House of Representatives elections to be held on Falgun 21. During the discussion, Mahawar said that India will provide full support to conduct the House of Representatives elections. Additional Secretary Mahawar also expressed his commitment to ensuring the necessary resources and equipment for the elections and the security agencies.

Similarly, during the meeting, Mahawar expressed his commitment to assist in the reconstruction of Jajarkot after the earthquake and the restoration and management of structures damaged by various disasters.

He said that the construction of the Integrated Check Post under construction in Bhairahawa and the completion of Indian-invested projects in Nepal will be supported on time. In a similar meeting, Additional Secretary Mahawar also invited Home Minister Aryal to visit India at an appropriate time.

During the meeting, Home Minister Aryal also expressed interest in expediting the construction of the under-construction dry port at Dodhara-Chandani. Home Minister Aryal said that the government has played an effective role in good governance, law enforcement, service delivery, peace and security of the people, and crime control.

He emphasized the need to enhance the capacity of security agencies on both sides and make information exchange between counter parts more effective in order to control crime, theft, robbery, and trafficking of illegal goods and criminal activities in the border area.

Similarly, Minister Aryal emphasized the need to expedite the construction work of the Nepal Police Academy, which is being built in Panauti, Kavre, from both sides.
