Human Rights International Film Festival Begins in Kathmandu

Dec 11, Kathmandu - The '13th Nepal Human Rights International Film Festival' has begun from Thursday with the aim of bringing human rights-focused films from around the world under one roof.

With the slogan 'Child Rights', the festival will be held for five days until Mangsir 29 at the auditorium of the Film Development Board and the auditorium of the Tourism Board, informed festival director Pandav Khatri.

"We are screening 50 films from 26 countries, and most of the films selected for the festival have already participated in prestigious international festivals like Cannes, Berlinale, Venice, and Busan," he said.

He said that the films screened at the festival will convey human rights issues to the audience in a simple and easy way. Festival director Khatri informed that the festival will feature the Palme d'Or (short film) winner 'I'm Glad You're Dead Now' at the 'Cannes Film Festival 2025', 'Navi Lily', which was screened for the first time at the same festival, and 'Azur', the first 'feature' film made in the Bajika language.

The festival will feature various programs including interactive group discussions, photo exhibitions, and 'live painting' in the presence of directors, producers, artists, and human rights activists, according to the organizers.
