Thai Prime Minister Dissolves Parliament

Dec 12, Kathmandu - Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul has dissolved parliament after a week of clashes along the border with Cambodia. The dissolution of parliament will lead to a general election in the country within 45 to 60 days.

In a statement issued on Friday, Prime Minister Charnvirakul said that his minority government has faced serious challenges since taking power three months ago. He said that the deadly clashes along the border have put the government in a difficult situation.

He said, "The appropriate solution to this problem is to dissolve parliament, which will return political power to the people."

Anutin Charnvirakul, a businessman who turned politician, became Thailand's third prime minister in August 2023. When he formed the government in September, he promised to dissolve parliament by the end of January.
