Dec 12, Kathmandu - A satellite built by Chepang students from Nepal was successfully launched from China.
According to sources, the satellite was launched from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center in Inner Mongolia, China, using a Kinetica 1 Rocket as part of the "Slippers to Satellite" mission. This marks the first satellite constructed entirely within Nepal to be successfully launched from China. The satellite is referred to as a Cube Satellite.
The satellite was developed with the participation of students from the Chepang community, specifically those in grades 7 and 8.
The mission, titled "Slippers to Satellite," symbolizes the journey of a community that cannot even afford a single pair of slippers to reach the point of satellite construction. The project was carried out under the initiative of a satellite organization and is known as the "Satellite Bus" system, developed entirely within Nepal.
This system integrates the power system (EPS), onboard computer (OBC), and communication system onto a single circuit board (PCB). The development team included Abhas Maskey, Officer Reshve, and Chepang students, including Trust Chepang.
The project is an educational initiative jointly promoted by Nepal Space Institute and the Amateur Radio Digital Communications Foundation.
