About 2.9 Million People in the United States Infected with Seasonal Flu

Dec 13, Kathmandu - The seasonal flu has infected nearly 2.9 million people in the United States. Thirty thousand people have been hospitalized and 1,200 have died, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Seasonal influenza is on the rise in most parts of the country, with influenza A (H3N2) the predominant strain this season, according to the center.

In the week ending December 6, U.S. public health laboratories nationwide detected 547 strains of influenza viruses. The first flu-related death of this season was also reported this week.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommends getting an annual flu vaccine, especially for people over six months of age.

Similarly, according to the center, there are some medications available to treat the flu. These medications are most effective when started early and are especially important for people who are at higher risk of developing serious flu-related complications.
