Dec 13, Kathmandu - The Nepali U-19 cricket team has suffered its first defeat in the ongoing U-19 Asia Cup held in the United Arab Emirates.
In their opening match on Saturday, Nepal was defeated by Sri Lanka by 8 wickets.
Sri Lanka successfully chased a modest target of 83 runs set by Nepal in 14.2 overs, losing only 2 wickets in the process.
Earlier, at the Seven Stadium in UAE, Sri Lanka won the toss and chose to field. Nepal, batting first, was all out for 82 runs in 28.5 overs.
For Nepal, Cibrin Shrestha was the top scorer with 18 runs, hitting one four off 43 balls. Opener Sahil Patel scored 12 runs, while Niraj Kumar Yadav contributed 10. No other batsman reached double figures.
Sri Lanka’s Setumika Senachirathne took 5 wickets for 25 runs in 9.5 overs, including one maiden. Other bowlers, Rasith Nimsara, Bigneshwaram Akash, Dulanith Sagara, and Chamika Heenatigala, each claimed one wicket.
