Nepali Congress Mourns Veteran Leader Amod Prasad Upadhyay, Observes Three-Day National Mourning

Dec 15, Kathmandu - Nepali Congress has announced a three-day mourning period in honor of veteran democracy fighter, former central member, and ex-minister Amod Prasad Upadhyay, who passed away recently. The party also declared that its flags will be flown at half-mast during this period.

The party’s Central Executive Committee, chaired by Vice President Dhanraj Gurung, held a meeting today to pay tribute to the late leader. The committee expressed profound grief over his demise and adopted a condolence resolution. As part of the mourning, flags will be flown at half-mast at central, provincial, and district offices from November 29 to December 2, announced General Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel.

Amod Prasad Upadhyay, who was a prominent figure in Nepal’s democratic movement, passed away at the age of 91 in Kathmandu’s HAMS Hospital after battling cancer. The meeting expressed deepest condolences to his family and paid homage to his contributions to the nation.

Additionally, the party has decided to close all central, provincial, and district offices on December 1 and will keep condolence registers in these offices until the 13th day of his passing. A memorial service will also be organized in his home district of Morang on the 13th day. His mortal remains are scheduled to be cremated today at Pashupati Aryaghat, as confirmed by the party office.
