Nepalese Living Abroad Sent Nearly 700 Billion Rupees Remittances in 4 months

Dec 15, Kathmandu - Remittance inflow has increased by 31.4 percent to Rs 687.13 billion in the first four months of the current fiscal year 2082/83. Remittance inflow had increased by 9.4 percent in the same period of the previous year. The financial statement released by Nepal Rastra Bank on Monday showed that remittance inflow was Rs 133.82 billion in the month of Kartik alone.

In the same month of the previous year, remittance inflow was Rs 114.31 billion. During the review period, the number of Nepalese who obtained final labor permits (institutional and individual-new) for foreign employment was 1,45,973 and the number of those who obtained re-labor permits was 1,27,837. In the same period of the previous year, such numbers were 1,47,478 and 94,105, respectively.

Foreign exchange reserves exceed 3 trillion

The total foreign exchange reserves, which were 2677.68 billion by the end of Ashadha 2082, have increased by 14.1 percent to 3055.52 billion by the end of Kartik.

Such reserves in US dollars have increased by 10.3 percent to 21.52 billion by the end of Ashdha 2082, from 19.5 billion by the end of Kartik 2082. Of the total foreign exchange reserves, the reserves held by Nepal Rastra Bank have increased by 12.8 percent to 2 trillion 724 billion by the end of Kartik 2082, from 2 trillion 414 billion by the end of Ashadha 2082.

Similarly, foreign exchange reserves held by banks and financial institutions (excluding Nepal Rastra Bank) stood at Rs 263.4 billion by the end of Ashadha 2082, but increased by 25.8 percent to Rs 330.85 billion by the end Kartik 2082. The share of Indian currency in the total foreign exchange reserves as of the end of Kartik 2082 is 21.9 percent.
