Dec 15, Kathmandu - Dr. Ram Prasad Pokhrel Community Eye Hospital, operating in Dhankuta, has provided treatment services to around 18,000 patients from remote mountainous and hilly districts of Koshi Province in a single year.
The hospital provided eye treatment services to 17,825 people in the fiscal year 2081/082.
Nepal Netrajyoti Sangh has brought this hospital into operation since 2070 BS. According to the Dhankuta branch of Netrajyoti Sangh, 17,825 people benefited from the cataract screening camp, regular outpatient service, student eye examination, and free spectacle distribution program last year through camps and outpatient services conducted with the aim of increasing access to eye treatment in remote areas.
The association's Dhankuta secretary, Dev Bahadur Khadka, informed that patients are being referred for initial examination, medicine distribution and surgery at eye check-up and surgery camps conducted in Dhankuta, Bhojpur, Tehratham, Sankhuwasabha and other districts. This hospital has been providing free treatment to poor and economically weak patients and also providing mobile services by a team of doctors.
The details of the income and expenditure of the last fiscal year were also presented at the 15th annual general meeting of Netrajyoti Sangh Dhankuta held on Sunday. At the general meeting, Biratnagar Eye Hospital in Rani was awarded an institutional honor for its effective contribution to eye treatment services.
