Ukraine Claims to Have Damaged a $57 Billion Russian Submarine Using a Sea Drone

Dec 16, Kathmandu - Ukraine says it has used an underwater drone for the first time, hitting a Russian submarine off the Black Sea, causing serious damage.

The Security Service of Ukraine (SBU) has claimed to have used Ukrainian-made 'Sea Baby' drones to cause serious damage to a 'Kilo-class' submarine in a port near the city of Novorossiysk.

The SBU released video footage showing a powerful explosion near the coast, where submarines and other vessels appear to be stationed.

Reuters reported that it had confirmed that the video was from the port of Novorossiysk by examining the port's structure and piers.

Ukraine has said that Russia, which was forced to withdraw its ships from Crimea due to the Ukrainian invasion, has also moved the submarine to Novorossiysk.

Ukraine has said that the submarine, which can fire cruise missiles, will cost Russia more than $400 million (about Rs. 57 billion) to build.
