Dec 16, Kathmandu - The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) has filed a corruption case against Binesh Munankarmi, head of the Pokhara Regional International Airport Project Implementation Unit under the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal.
The commission filed a charge sheet in the special court on Tuesday, finding that Munankarmi had misused his position and illegally acquired wealth. According to the authority, a claim of Rs 25 million 43 thousand 517 has been made against him.
According to the commission, an investigation conducted based on a complaint of illegal acquisition of wealth found that Munankarmi's expenses were unnaturally higher than the income as per the property declaration submitted by him while holding a government position. He entered government service on Falgun 1, 2054 BS, and the period up to Mangsir 14, 2080 BS has been set as the investigation period.
During that period, it has been found that assets worth Rs 37.381 crore were acquired in the name of Munankarmi and his family members, while Rs 62.415 crore were spent during the same period, according to the Commission. Although the expenditure was found to be Rs 25.43 crore more than the total income, the source of the amount could not be confirmed, the Commission stated.
The Commission stated that since it was found that property was also purchased in the name of Mrs. Purna Keshari Gosai from the assets illegally acquired by misusing the authority while in government service, the Authority has also filed a charge sheet against her.
