Government Extends Mandate of Commission Investigating Incidents from Bhadra 23 and 24 by One Month

Dec 18, Kathmandu - The government has decided to extend the tenure of the investigation commission related to the incidents that occurred on Bhadra 23 and 24 by one month.

Information and Communications Minister and government spokesperson Jagadish Kharel informed that the Cabinet meeting held in Singha Durbar on Thursday approved the extension of the commission’s mandate.

Additionally, the meeting decided to recommend to the President to issue the first amendment ordinance of the House of Representatives Election Act, 2074. The amendment aims to revise Schedule 1 of the Act based on the population percentages of Dalits, Indigenous peoples, Khas Arya, Madhesi, Tharu, and Muslim, as per the 2078 Census report, Kharel added.

Furthermore, the Cabinet approved the utilization of an empty block in the central prison constructed in Bidur, Nuwakot, to house individuals over 18 years old who are currently in various juvenile detention homes and are nearing the end of their sentences, in order to facilitate juvenile reform.
