Widespread violence in Bangladesh: Some party offices burned, media houses and journalists attacked

Dec 19, Kathmandu - Violence has erupted in Bangladesh following the death of opposition leader Usman Hadi. Protesters stormed the offices of the country's largest newspapers, the Daily Star and Pratham Alo, on Thursday night, vandalizing and setting fire to them.

The residence of former president Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was also vandalized. The office of Sheikh Hasina's party, the Awami League, was also torched by protesters.

Usman Hadi was one of the key leaders of the student protests against Sheikh Hasina in July 2024. He was shot in the head during an election campaign on 12 December.

He was then flown to Singapore for better treatment. He died six days later.
