Dec 19, Kathmandu - US President Donald Trump has suspended the Diversified Visa Lottery (DV). The DV lottery, which allows citizens of countries with few permanent residents in the US to apply for permanent residence, has been temporarily suspended.
The announcement comes a month after the Trump administration said it would change the DV lottery entry process for the 2027 cycle. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem said the decision was made at Trump’s direction and would halt the US Citizenship and Immigration Services program, The Guardian reported online.
The secretary Noam posted on social media that the suspect in the Brown University and MIT shootings was allowed to enter the US and that such a violent person should never have been allowed to enter the US. Last month, the Trump administration announced plans to overhaul the DV lottery entry process for the 2027 cycle. Details of the proposed changes have not yet been made public.
