Finance Minister Khanal Assures of Assistance in Reconstruction of Damaged Buildings

Dec 19, Kathmandu - Finance Minister Rameshwor Khanal has inspected the Butwal Sub-Metropolitan City office building damaged by vandalism and arson during the Gen-Z movement.

Finance Minister Khanal, who visited the damaged Sub-Metropolitan City Office building one hundred days after the vandalism and arson, assured that the federal government would provide support for the repair of the building.

Stating that the file related to the repair and maintenance of the damaged office building arrived on his desk only on Thursday, he said that he would take the necessary decision after reviewing the file.

In the meantime, Butwal Sub-metropolitan City Mayor Khilraj Pandey said that it was not possible to provide office services through simple repairs alone, so the support of the federal government was necessary.

He requested the federal government to provide assistance as a large amount of money is required for the reconstruction of the office building and the sub-metropolitan city does not have such resources.

Stating that the sub-metropolitan city itself should cut the budget allocated for the development plan while reconstructing the building, Mayor Pandey complained that cutting the plan that has already been implemented will cause problems.

Although a budget of 250 million rupees was allocated through the President Chure Conservation Project for the Jyotinagar landslide control in Butwal, he urged not to cut the budget, saying that he had heard that the budget had been reduced to 2.5 million rupees.

He drew the attention of Finance Minister Khanal that the budget cut for the Jyotinagar Landslide Control Plan would displace the settlement of Jyotinagar, the Butwal Multiple Campus Nepali Army School, and affect the entire Butwal.

In response, Finance Minister Khanal informed that the budget for sensitive and already implemented projects has not been cut and said that he would discuss the matter with the concerned bodies.

Khanal had also inspected the under-construction Lumbini Provincial Hospital.

He had also assured that he would facilitate the necessary budget management by observing the construction work on site.
