Attack on Colombian military base: 7 soldiers killed, 30 injured

Dec 20, Kathmandu - At least seven soldiers have been killed and 30 wounded in an attack by a rebel group on a military base in the northeastern Colombian city of Aguachica.

The military said the attack was carried out by the National Liberation Army (ELN) using drones. The military called it a “terrorist attack” that endangered civilian lives and violated human rights and international humanitarian law.

Colombian President Gustavo Petro responded via social media, saying the incident was due to a lack of advanced anti-drone systems. He said he had ordered the immediate purchase of the necessary anti-drone systems to prevent such attacks by illegal armed groups.

Meanwhile, General Francisco Cubides, commander-in-chief of the armed forces, said intelligence gathering and military operations would be further strengthened against the ELN's terrorist activities.
