UML Koshi Announces Protest Against the Government

Dec 23, Kathmandu - The CPN (UML) Koshi Province Committee has announced that it will launch a strong protest, calling the current government's actions unconstitutional and regressive. The provincial committee made this decision public through a press conference organized in Biratnagar on Tuesday (Push 8).

Provincial Chairman Ghanshyam Khatiwada said that there is no alternative to going on the protest. He said, “The unconstitutional decisions and actions taken by the government are unacceptable to us.”

A statement issued by Provincial Chairman Khatiwada accused the government of seeking political revenge. It has been stated that demonstrations will be held in all 14 districts of Koshi in phases against this.

The party's recently concluded 11th National General Convention elected a new central committee under the leadership of KP Sharma Oli. The statement said, "An attempt is being made to cause unnecessary suffering to the leader of the country's largest and most popular party and former Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in the name of the so-called investigation commission, thereby pushing the country towards conflict and confrontation."

The UML has reiterated its demand for the restoration of the House of Representatives, the formation of an all-party government, constitutional amendment and a fresh mandate to protect democracy and the constitution.

All district committees of Koshi have been called upon to hold peaceful vigilance demonstrations, goodwill rallies and various types of protest programs. It has been made clear that any vindictive behaviour, arrests or unfair actions by the government will not be tolerated and that a strong response will be given.

The statement said, “The CPN (UML) Koshi Province Committee will retaliate against any regressive steps and conspiracies by the unconstitutional government from today.”

The committee has also appealed to democracy-loving political parties, intellectual communities, human rights activists, civil society, industrialists and businessmen, youth, and students to show solidarity and participate in the movement.
