Ukrainian President Zelensky Warns of Russia's Efforts to Evade International Sanctions and Threats to Global Security

Dec 25, Kathmandu - Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has issued a stark warning that Russia is trying to circumvent international sanctions, raising global security risks.

He cited a report by Oleh Ivashchenko, the head of Ukraine’s Foreign Intelligence Service, saying Russia is trying to evade sanctions through energy companies and fictitious legal structures.

In a public message on social media, President Zelenskyy said Ukraine is constantly monitoring such activities and will coordinate with partner countries to maintain pressure on Russia.

“Russia is using temporary owners and fictitious legal schemes to shield its energy companies from global sanctions. We are monitoring all of this activity and will work with partners to prevent Russia from gathering resources for war,” he said.

Ivasenko’s report also covers Russia’s deployment of the Oresnik system on Belarusian soil, which President Zelensky has described as a serious threat to global security. According to him, the aggressive expansion of such weapons sets a dangerous precedent and has been instructed to develop joint response options with allies.

President Zelensky also expressed concern about the growing cooperation between Russia and China in the fields of intelligence and military production. He noted that cooperation between the two countries’ institutions is growing, especially in space-based intelligence. According to Ukraine, there is a connection between Chinese satellite images and Russian attacks on Ukrainian energy infrastructure.

"Such activities are helping Russia prolong the war and undermine diplomatic efforts," he said. He also made it clear that all these issues will be raised with partners and that Russia’s actions will be countered through diplomatic channels.

Meanwhile, the Kyiv City Military Administration reported that five people were injured in a recent Russian drone strike in the Sviatoshynskyi district of Kyiv. Ukraine concludes that such incidents of war are seriously affecting not only regional but also global security.
