Germany to Not Participate in Proposed International Stabilization Force for Gaza Peace Plan

Dec 26, Kathmandu - Germany will not participate in the proposed International Stabilization Force (ISF) to implement the Gaza peace plan, German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul said on Wednesday. There are no plans for such a force in the near future.

The formation of the ISF is part of the second phase of US President Donald Trump's 20-point peace plan. This phase also includes the condition that Hamas surrender its weapons.

Wadephul told German news agency DPA that German soldiers would not be part of the force needed to provide solid security. Wadephul also called for the second phase of the peace plan to begin as soon as possible.

“We must not allow the current division of Gaza, with one part under the control of the Israeli army and the other under the control of Hamas, to become permanent,” he said.

However, while acknowledging the difficulties in implementing the peace plan, he also appealed for patience. “Even if it is completed tomorrow, we must prepare ourselves for this to be a long process,” he said.

Wadeful said Hamas was politically and militarily active and was probably regaining its strength. “So far, we are far from being able to start the reconstruction process in the Gaza Strip,” he said.

While Wadephul said Germany would support the reconstruction effort, he also appealed to wealthy Gulf countries to help provide financial resources.
