Tragic Train Collision in Mexico Claims 13 Lives, Injures Nearly 100

Dec 29, Kathmandu - In a devastating railway accident in Mexico, at least 13 people have lost their lives, and 98 others have been injured, according to official sources. Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum expressed deep sorrow over the incident and assured that emergency and rescue operations have been swiftly deployed.

In a statement shared on social media platform 'X', President Sheinbaum confirmed that the navy has verified the death toll. She added that government rescue and relief agencies are already on the scene, providing necessary medical treatment to the injured.

Following the accident, the governor of the affected state, Solomon Jara, has been directed to offer all possible assistance to the victims and their families, the President stated.

The train service involved in the crash was launched in 2023. The railway, which holds strategic importance by connecting the Pacific Ocean to Mexico's Gulf, is currently undergoing expansion plans by the government.

As a result of the accident, train operations on this line have been completely halted. Officials in Mexico are conducting investigations to determine the cause of the crash, with further details expected soon.
