MoHP Issues Safety Advisory on Use of Heating Appliances During Winter

Dec 29, Kathmandu - The Ministry of Health and Population (MoHP) has issued a public safety advisory urging citizens to exercise extreme caution when using fires, heaters, and geysers during the winter season.

Ministry Spokesperson Dr. Prakash Budhathoki warned that failure to follow safety protocols while heating homes or using bathroom appliances could lead to severe accidents or fatalities. "We have seen grave incidents in the past due to negligence. Caution is vital for safety," he stated.

Key Safety Guidelines Issued by the Ministry:

• Ventilation is Essential: When lighting fires or using heating equipment, ensure there is proper airflow in the room. Avoid using coal-based heat sources in enclosed spaces.

• Fire Hazards: Keep flammable materials such as paper and clothing away from heaters and open flames.

• Total Extinguishment: Always ensure that fires are completely put out after use and never leave them unattended.

• Heater Usage: Turn off heaters periodically to prevent overheating and ensure they are unplugged before going to sleep.

• Geyser Safety: The Ministry strongly recommends installing the main geyser unit in an open space outside the bathroom. Additionally, individuals are advised not to remain in the bathroom for extended periods while the geyser is running out of gas.
