Dec 29, Kathmandu - The Patan High Court has issued an interim order in favor of Dr. Arun Shahi, the candidate for the vice-presidentship (Bagmati Province Coordinator) of the Nepal Medical Association (NMA). It has also issued a show cause order in the names of six people including NMA. The interim order was issued by a single bench of Justice Kripasur Karki.
The NMA Election Committee has issued an interim order not to implement the decisions made on Paush 20 and Paush 21. Dr. Shahi had sought an interim order to stop the committee from rejecting his candidacy, saying it was against the statute and rules of the NMA.
Advocates Kishore Kumar Bista and Anupam Bista, senior advocates Hari Upreti, Ramesh Badal, Tikaram Bhattarai and Bhojraj Acharya argued on behalf of Dr Shahi.
Dr Shahi had initially filed a 'reconsideration petition' with the Election Committee, claiming that he had been denied participation in the election process after completing the process. He said that the Election Committee did not hear it and did not even consider it necessary to call him for discussion.
After the committee did not hear from Dr. Shahi, he also filed a petition with the District Administration Office. The District Administration Office had held that the nomination had been duly registered and clarified that the Election Committee did not have the authority to make arbitrary rules.
